WoC Diaspora Project
Over the years, innovative national and international programs for "tapping the diaspora" have been put in place so that home countries can access expatriate expertise, knowledge, and experience (as well as external networks for trade, communications, and technological development). WoCI is borrowing aspects from one such well-known international program, the UN Development Program's Transfer of Knowledge through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN) began in Turkey in the 1970s and is now established in some 50 countries to create its WoC Diaspora Project.
WoCI would host a summit to launch the Women of Color Diaspora Project. The gathering in will be in Trinidad, which is one of the most racially/ethnically diverse countries in the diasporic Caribbean. The summit's purpose is to discuss common issues and seek solutions to problems shared by Women of Color globally, whether economic, social, or political.
